Officer Involved Shooting

As a Police Officer a lot of things have happened to me that would be tough for a normal citizen to handle. But one night in particular turned out to be one that is a Police Officer's worst nightmare.

It was cold and I was dispatched to a call of a subject who had tried to stab his uncle with a knife. After arriving on scene it was determined that, we'll call him "Joe", had fled prior to me and my partners arrival. Joe had also reportedly been off of his mental illness medications for approximately two weeks.

We began a search of the area, which was out in the middle of the woods. We were flagged down by a couple who were camping and told that a subject had approached there camp and that he was acting 'crazy'. My partner and I approached and attempted to make contact with Joe. Joe was acting very erratic and not responding to our commands. Joe had his hands inside of his front sweatshirt pocket and would not remove them and we of course did not know where the knife was.

I brought my Police K-9 next to me and ordered Joe to take his hands out of his pockets or I would be forced to send my dog. Joe refused to comply with my orders several times. I sent my dog on an apprehension command and he grabbed Joe by the arm. Joe removed his hands from his pockets with knife in hand. Joe stated several times that he would kill my dog if I did not call him off. After my dog attempted to subdue Joe several times I called him back to me to keep him from getting hurt.

I removed my Taser and ordered Joe to drop the knife. Joe of course refused and I deployed my Taser at Joe. The Taser did not have any affect on Joe as he pulled the prongs from his sweatshirt and then began to run away with my partner and I in pursuit. During the foot pursuit my partner deployed his Taser at Joe two more times without affect either time.

Joe came to a large flat bed trailer and jumped up on top of it with his knife still in hand. My partner and I spent several minutes talking to Joe and trying to get him to drop the knife without success. Joe finally made his decision, put the knife above his head and lunged at me with it. In defense of myself I was forced to shoot Joe. Joe fell onto the trailer and my partner and I began CPR as we called for help. We continued CPR until a flightcare helicopter arrived on scene and pronounced Joe deceased.

This is something that I have had to live with for some time now and not a day goes by that I don't think about it. When it comes down to it though I went home to my wife and children that night.

I of course got a lot of criticism, good and bad, over the incident in the newspapers but of course I was there and they were not. I had a second to make a decision and in my opinion it was the right one, although tragic.

So when you read of an Officer Involved Shooting where the Officer was forced to take someone's life I just ask that you remember that you don't have all of the facts. No Officer ever wants to take the life of another human being. It is not something that is easy to live with, no matter how tough a guy you think you are.

The exact causes of mental illnesses are not empirically known, but studies corresponding to the treatment and issues relating to them are growing faster than ever before.

Many people that suffer from these problems usually go to a psychiatrist and are advised to a certain drug that many think will cure there aliment. However, psychiatric drugs are designed to re-balance and create chemical adjustments in the brain, and are not really designed to 'cure' anything. There is much information on the effects that these drugs can have on ones mind. Recently, more material and testimonials about the harmful effects are leaking out, and people are seeing the dangerous results that psycho-tropic and psychiatric routes can produce. However, there might be better, safer approaches to handling some of the root causes that stem from these disorders.

Certain vitamins and minerals are crucial to the mind and body's basic functioning vitality. Living with anxiety and panic can be depressing, but make sure that when you are looking for help or information concerning mental wellness that you consider harmless, less riskier approaches first.

Paper Pig On The Rear View Mirror!

Nothing quite overwhelms the senses like the aroma of hickory smoked barbeque! Sometimes I drive past a barbeque restaurant hoping to get a whiff of smoke from their cooking fires. The tantalizing fragrance that tempts the taste buds has just for a moment, allowed me to escape the battles of everyday life and rest contentedly in the warm embrace of barbeque smoke. Wouldn't it be wonderful to carry that aroma with you where ever you go? Of course that's impossible, but I have a solution and the more I think about it the more excited I get. I may be onto something!

Hickory smoked barbeque air fresheners! Instead of having one of those little green cardboard pine trees hanging from your mirror to freshen your car, you have one that has been cut in the shape of a pig. Emanating from that cardboard cut out would be the most tantalizing scent that has ever been offered to the American public; the irresistible aroma of hickory smoked barbeque.

Just think of the market for such a product! While there are different scents available, from apple pie to pine trees, I can't find where there is actually a paper pig air freshener. I think my chances are good that it hasn't been invented yet. If it were already on the market every son of the south would have one dangling from the mirror on his pick-up truck.

Barbeque down here in Crimson Tide country is more of an art form than it is a method of cooking meat. The paper pig would be like a badge of honor hanging from your mirror, showing everyone that barbeque is king! You could turn the fan in your car up to high, roll down your window a little and blow out some of those fantastic barbeque vapors into the automobile next to you. Wouldn't that be something to impress your friends?

After the excitement of the paper pig has generated a fan base of hundreds of thousands of folks across the country, next on the scene could be room air purifiers. I know it's sort of a contradiction in terms to call barbeque scented air pure, but it would be an awesome experience to walk into your bedroom and be overcome by the scent of hickory smoked pork barbeque.

Let's not forget the perfume and cologne market. Choosing a name for the product would be as important as the fragrance. Something like "Barbeque Bouquet" would send sales through the roof! Never again would a man have to guess as to what perfume his date was wearing, because he would know within 10 feet of her exactly what essence of barbeque aroma she had chosen for that romantic evening. Hickory, cherry or even apple would have any red blooded American male swooning after the first hello!

Next of course would be after shave lotion and colognes for men. Television commercials would show a rugged outdoorsman sniffing the wind and smiling at the vision of a two huge Rib Eye steaks sizzling on an outdoor grill, with smoke delicately drifting past his nose. His eyes would suddenly widen and a look of astonishment would turn to joy as he realizes that the beautiful blonde walking toward him is wearing "Barbeque Bouquet"!

Spicy meat rubs and sauces would be another outlet for "Barbeque Bouquet". The list of items that could use this idea is staggering! The cardboard pig idea is so fantastic that it boggles the mind when you think of its commercial applications! But those ideas are best left to someone else, because by nature I'm a lazy man and all this sounds like work!

How to Make Christmas Skittles

Have you heard people say that toddlers always prefer the box and the rubbish rather than the present inside? Fun and funky kids skittles and Christmas pudding bowling ball and all made from rubbish! The ideal Christmas present for younger brothers and sisters. Best of all each skittle is made from a Yazoo milkshake bottle, and somebody needs to drink the delicious milkshake drink!

You will need a pack of 6 mini Yazoo milkshakes. Empty the bottles and rinse the bottles out and leave them to drain until they are completely dry.

Each bottle now needs a thin layer of paper mache. This makes the bottles easier to paint and it covers the ridges on the bottle. Rip up newspapers into small squares. Mix some PVA glue with two parts water and with a paintbrush, stick the newspaper pieces to the bottles so that they are completely covered. Allow to dry over night.

Now you can paint your bottles in festive designs such as, a penguin from Lapland, a snowman, a Christmas tree, a robin, Rudolf and Father Christmas.

To make the bowling ball, scrunch up two sheets of newspaper into a ball and add some selotape so that it keeps its ball like shape. Then apply 3 or 4 layers of paper mache. Allow to dry overnight.

Paint the bowling ball to look like a Christmas pudding with cream drizzled over it and with a sprig of holly on the top.

When all the paint is dry you can test it out. Set the skittles out to form a triangle. 3 skittles in the back row, 2 skittles in the middle row and one skittle at the front. Try to knock all the skittles over with the Christmas pudding.

To make the game harder you can put some sand inside each bottle to weight it slightly.

You could also write points on the bottom of each skittle and make a point scoring system.

You could make a larger set of skittles by using the larger bottles of Yazoo milkshake, and then you would have more milkshake to guzzle!
