Officer Involved Shooting

As a Police Officer a lot of things have happened to me that would be tough for a normal citizen to handle. But one night in particular turned out to be one that is a Police Officer's worst nightmare.

It was cold and I was dispatched to a call of a subject who had tried to stab his uncle with a knife. After arriving on scene it was determined that, we'll call him "Joe", had fled prior to me and my partners arrival. Joe had also reportedly been off of his mental illness medications for approximately two weeks.

We began a search of the area, which was out in the middle of the woods. We were flagged down by a couple who were camping and told that a subject had approached there camp and that he was acting 'crazy'. My partner and I approached and attempted to make contact with Joe. Joe was acting very erratic and not responding to our commands. Joe had his hands inside of his front sweatshirt pocket and would not remove them and we of course did not know where the knife was.

I brought my Police K-9 next to me and ordered Joe to take his hands out of his pockets or I would be forced to send my dog. Joe refused to comply with my orders several times. I sent my dog on an apprehension command and he grabbed Joe by the arm. Joe removed his hands from his pockets with knife in hand. Joe stated several times that he would kill my dog if I did not call him off. After my dog attempted to subdue Joe several times I called him back to me to keep him from getting hurt.

I removed my Taser and ordered Joe to drop the knife. Joe of course refused and I deployed my Taser at Joe. The Taser did not have any affect on Joe as he pulled the prongs from his sweatshirt and then began to run away with my partner and I in pursuit. During the foot pursuit my partner deployed his Taser at Joe two more times without affect either time.

Joe came to a large flat bed trailer and jumped up on top of it with his knife still in hand. My partner and I spent several minutes talking to Joe and trying to get him to drop the knife without success. Joe finally made his decision, put the knife above his head and lunged at me with it. In defense of myself I was forced to shoot Joe. Joe fell onto the trailer and my partner and I began CPR as we called for help. We continued CPR until a flightcare helicopter arrived on scene and pronounced Joe deceased.

This is something that I have had to live with for some time now and not a day goes by that I don't think about it. When it comes down to it though I went home to my wife and children that night.

I of course got a lot of criticism, good and bad, over the incident in the newspapers but of course I was there and they were not. I had a second to make a decision and in my opinion it was the right one, although tragic.

So when you read of an Officer Involved Shooting where the Officer was forced to take someone's life I just ask that you remember that you don't have all of the facts. No Officer ever wants to take the life of another human being. It is not something that is easy to live with, no matter how tough a guy you think you are.

The exact causes of mental illnesses are not empirically known, but studies corresponding to the treatment and issues relating to them are growing faster than ever before.

Many people that suffer from these problems usually go to a psychiatrist and are advised to a certain drug that many think will cure there aliment. However, psychiatric drugs are designed to re-balance and create chemical adjustments in the brain, and are not really designed to 'cure' anything. There is much information on the effects that these drugs can have on ones mind. Recently, more material and testimonials about the harmful effects are leaking out, and people are seeing the dangerous results that psycho-tropic and psychiatric routes can produce. However, there might be better, safer approaches to handling some of the root causes that stem from these disorders.

Nothing quite overwhelms the senses like the aroma of hickory smoked barbeque! Sometimes I drive past a barbeque restaurant hoping to get a whiff of smoke from their cooking fires. Just to get a sniff of the heady scent that drifts from genuine pork barbeque cooking on hickory coals, normally will get me through the week until I fire up my own barbeque pit.

The tantalizing fragrance that tempts the taste buds has just for a moment, allowed me to escape the battles of everyday life and rest contentedly in the warm embrace of barbeque smoke. Wouldn't it be wonderful to carry that aroma with you where ever you go? Of course that's impossible, but I have a solution and the more I think about it the more excited I get. I may be onto something!

Hickory smoked barbeque air fresheners! Instead of having one of those little green cardboard pine trees hanging from your mirror to freshen your car, you have one that has been cut in the shape of a pig. Emanating from that cardboard cut out would be the most tantalizing scent that has ever been offered to the American public; the irresistible aroma of hickory smoked barbeque.

Just think of the market for such a product! While there are different scents available, from apple pie to pine trees, I can't find where there is actually a paper pig air freshener. I think my chances are good that it hasn't been invented yet. If it were already on the market every son of the south would have one dangling from the mirror on his pick-up truck.

Barbeque down here in Crimson Tide country is more of an art form than it is a method of cooking meat. The paper pig would be like a badge of honor hanging from your mirror, showing everyone that barbeque is king! You could turn the fan in your car up to high, roll down your window a little and blow out some of those fantastic barbeque vapors into the automobile next to you. Wouldn't that be something to impress your friends?

After the excitement of the paper pig has generated a fan base of hundreds of thousands of folks across the country, next on the scene could be room air purifiers. I know it's sort of a contradiction in terms to call barbeque scented air pure, but it would be an awesome experience to walk into your bedroom and be overcome by the scent of hickory smoked pork barbeque.

Let's not forget the perfume and cologne market. Choosing a name for the product would be as important as the fragrance. Something like "Barbeque Bouquet" would send sales through the roof! Never again would a man have to guess as to what perfume his date was wearing, because he would know within 10 feet of her exactly what essence of barbeque aroma she had chosen for that romantic evening. Hickory, cherry or even apple would have any red blooded American male swooning after the first hello!

Next of course would be after shave lotion and colognes for men. Television commercials would show a rugged outdoorsman sniffing the wind and smiling at the vision of a two huge Rib Eye steaks sizzling on an outdoor grill, with smoke delicately drifting past his nose. His eyes would suddenly widen and a look of astonishment would turn to joy as he realizes that the beautiful blonde walking toward him is wearing "Barbeque Bouquet"!

Spicy meat rubs and sauces would be another outlet for "Barbeque Bouquet". The list of items that could use this idea is staggering! The cardboard pig idea is so fantastic that it boggles the mind when you think of its commercial applications! But those ideas are best left to someone else, because by nature I'm a lazy man and all this sounds like work!

How to Make Christmas Skittles

Have you heard people say that toddlers always prefer the box and the rubbish rather than the present inside? Fun and funky kids skittles and Christmas pudding bowling ball and all made from rubbish! The ideal Christmas present for younger brothers and sisters. Best of all each skittle is made from a Yazoo milkshake bottle, and somebody needs to drink the delicious milkshake drink!

You will need a pack of 6 mini Yazoo milkshakes. Empty the bottles and rinse the bottles out and leave them to drain until they are completely dry.

Each bottle now needs a thin layer of paper mache. This makes the bottles easier to paint and it covers the ridges on the bottle. Rip up newspapers into small squares. Mix some PVA glue with two parts water and with a paintbrush, stick the newspaper pieces to the bottles so that they are completely covered. Allow to dry over night.

Now you can paint your bottles in festive designs such as, a penguin from Lapland, a snowman, a Christmas tree, a robin, Rudolf and Father Christmas.

To make the bowling ball, scrunch up two sheets of newspaper into a ball and add some selotape so that it keeps its ball like shape. Then apply 3 or 4 layers of paper mache. Allow to dry overnight.

Paint the bowling ball to look like a Christmas pudding with cream drizzled over it and with a sprig of holly on the top.

When all the paint is dry you can test it out. Set the skittles out to form a triangle. 3 skittles in the back row, 2 skittles in the middle row and one skittle at the front. Try to knock all the skittles over with the Christmas pudding.

To make the game harder you can put some sand inside each bottle to weight it slightly.

You could also write points on the bottom of each skittle and make a point scoring system.

You could make a larger set of skittles by using the larger bottles of Yazoo milkshake, and then you would have more milkshake to guzzle!

Moving - Packing Tips for Large, Small and Awkward Items

Most movers are so happy to finally arrive in their new home that they are able to overlook chipped dinner plates or a scratch on the dining room table. But there's no reason your household goods should become casualties of the move. With a little care and planning your household goods will both arrive in mint condition.

Following are packing tips to consider when packing large items, packing small items and packing awkward items.

Packing Large Items:

Tie bed frames together with tape or rope then label the pieces so they are easy to reassemble.
Fill drawers with clothes or fragile, well-wrapped items. Cover them with a blanket or with furniture pads and rope securely.
Remove table legs, pad and tie together. Put nuts and bolts in a bag and tape them underneath the tabletop.
Empty, defrost and drain the refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher. Clean the interiors and put accessories in bags. Stuff towels between washer sides to prevent rotating and tape down any moveable parts. Cover with blankets and tie.
Use the original packaging for computers, televisions and electronics, or buy electronic-specific boxes.

Packing Small Items:

Put your microwave, VCR and other small appliances into boxes and cushion with wadded paper.
Pack books flat in small cartons, alternating bindings. Try to keep each box under 30 lbs.
Pack hanging items, such as clothing and drapes, in wardrobe boxes. Leave small items in drawers.
Wrap fragile collectibles in bubble wrap and tape them securely.
Pack CDs upright and cushion with them newspaper.
Stack pots and pans and cushion with them paper.
Place any kitchen items you will need immediately in a separate box and label appropriately so you know which one to unpack first.
Wrap dishes individually in bubble wrap and never stack them flat. Pack plates on saucers on edges and place cups and bowls around them.

Packing Awkward Items:

Wrap chair arms and legs with bubble wrap. Place slipcovers on chairs or buy chair bags for protection.
Loosen the handlebars from bicycles and turn them sideways. Cover chains and pedals to keep grease off other items.
Wrap small items, such as mirrors and artwork, in newsprint and pack in mirror boxes. Cover larger pieces with cardboard, tape them securely and stand them along the sides of the truck or inside wardrobe boxes.
Disassemble heavy lawn furniture. Put nuts and bolts in a bag and tie together.
Roll up rugs and secure with rope or tape.
Place plants in plastic bags with air holes then in boxes. Water them before you leave.
Wrap sharp edges of tools and use plenty of cushioning to prevent injury. Tape long-handled tools together and place smaller ones in boxes.
Empty gasoline from all tanks of lawnmowers and edgers and check for oil leaks.
Use medium-sized boxes for garage and attic items, such as spray paints, brushes and car waxes. Throw away oily rags or anything combustible.
Keep pets in a pet carrier up front with you. Ask your vet for suggestions on how to make their move less traumatic.

6. To qualify for a Reverse Mortgage Your home must be debt free - FALSE!

Many people getting a reverse mortgage have a traditional mortgage or other debt instrument on your home. The mortgage or debt however, must be paid off first with the proceeds of the reverse mortgage. This article addresses the issue about whether one can attract or magnetize circumstances without taken "action." Its intention is to create better understanding in your minds about the use of mental and spiritual laws for success and the relationship between mental and physical action and work.

Let's Get Mental

Yes, indeed, marketing your business is an activity. But that does not mean that the activity is necessarily "physical".

Mental activity is thousands and thousands times more potent than physical activity. In fact, mental activity is a precursor to the right physical activity that gets results. However, physical activity is not necessarily required if you understand and apply mental activity. It is not magic. It is law. As I like to say, once you understand how the laws work, the "supernatural" becomes quite natural. You realize that the Universe is indeed magnetic and thought and feeling has more vibratory pull than any magnet you could imagine.

So I think it behooves anyone who wants to be successful to become aware of the relationship of mental and physical activity and know when either is indicated. There is the right mental activity, which can in and of itself attract without the need for physical activity AND there is the right mental activity that inspires a corresponding right physical action/activity that produces results. If the right mental activity is not included, then one will end up like the majority of the population - doing and doing, acting and acting but not succeeding.

You are using these laws all of the time whether you realize it or not. Only you are most likely not using them for the purpose and intention that you desire consciously. How many things have you attracted into your life that you feel you did nothing to deserve and asked, "Why did this happen?"

You didn't "work" for those things. Yet they happened. Why? These results were the outcropping of the thoughts and impressions that were established in your mind subconsciously.

Now, the laws I am presenting to you do not indicate that you are to spend all of your time sitting around doing nothing. I won't even address that because it is just plain ridiculous. I believe I am articulate enough in my writing to get my meaning across - if you will read carefully.

However, the absolute truth is that yes, we can attract circumstances to us without physical action. I have lived my life accomplishing that way. When you understand fully that thoughts are things and all physical things are in motion and vibrating at the molecular level, you will understand that it is indeed a magnetic Universe and we can vibrate to our good and it can vibrate to us. I know without knowledge in this area, it may appear fantastic, but that is why I attempt to speak in simple terms to create understanding and acceptance in your minds.

How Do I Know?

What is my experience? In 20 years I have never looked for a client (and my clients are the largest corporations in the world). I never advertised, never actively promoted. And yet I became renowned in my field and received all the exposure and publicity I could want - not as a result of anything I did physically, but as a result of the mental activity I learned to do. The physical part comes AFTER I receive the clients and the opportunities - that's when I fulfill the creative vision of the client's projects. I attract all of the ideas and elements necessary to do the perfect job. It's easy. It flows. I don't have to struggle or push or try or waste energy. The right answers truly "come out of the blue" for the most part. You can find some pretty amazing stories on my website with details of my results from using these laws over the years.

But the actual marketing of my business - always receptive, never active, except to walk through the doors that opened as a result of the mental activity.

You will see several cover newspaper stories on my website (those were only a few of several hundred articles worldwide). The articles began within six weeks of starting my business and continued for years. There were numerous television and radio segments also. You will have to believe me when I tell you that I had no publicist and did no work to get any of that publicity. Physical work, that is. The work was done on a mental level.

Cruise Control

So when you apply these laws, whether from a purely mental standpoint, or spiritual basis, you are guided to the actions that are necessary because the law has to produce what you have mentally accepted. You are no longer spinning your wheels - you are now on an automatic path to your results and to your success.

You establish, impregnate the thought and feeling of what you want in your deeper mind. You are intuitively guided to DO all of the things necessary for the result. You follow the leads. You do the outer work as you are guided to do. You also ATTRACT all of the things necessary for the result. The result may indeed come without physical outer action on your part or it may require action, but the action will be shown to you. You're in the flow.

There is a sense of connection to a source of wisdom that knows all the answers and you can tap into that source anytime you want. You will know when to be still and do the mental work and wait and when to take outer action and do the work that results in your success.

The alternative? You work and work and struggle and struggle and you don't get there. And wonder why you don't succeed.

So...to pooh pooh the idea of attracting and magnetizing your good, even "out of the blue", whether in your personal life or your business, just reveals a lack of awareness and a mind that is not open to the infinite possibilities that surround us. It indicates a mentality that is not up with the times or open and receptive to the great discoveries of our times that can further our success.

My point...you can close your mind and limit your ability to succeed. Or you can open your mind, expand your vision to include both the physical/active world and the mental/magnetic world and....be really successful!

Garage Floors - Let's Look at Your Options

Garage Floors have come a long way. During the last decade the advances in plastics, paints, epoxies, polymers and many other related products has led to the introduction of a whole new arena of products that may be used to coat, cover and enhance your garage floors.

In this article we will look at several categories in general and we will go into more depth so you can pick the application you are most interested in and investigate it further. Alternatively, if you like, look at all your options to make the most informed decision you can.

We will also try to give a general idea of the cost of these applications to see if they fit into your budget or if you would like to see, what other options are available for your garage floors. Prices quoted are for professional installation so you can see how much you can save by doing it yourself.

We have been in the decorative concrete and remodeling business for over two decades and have seen and used numerous products for the home and in commercial and industrial settings. The quality and durability of these products vary greatly and the old adage still applies, You get what you pay for. While many products promise longevity, only a few actually deliver. We will assist you to make the right decision and if something is out of your budget well take a look at alternative products and give you a reasonable expectation of their durability.

Garage floor coatings and paints: As a rule, I am not a big fan of most of these types of applications. Reason #1 is that they do not contain enough solids to stand up to vehicular traffic or hot tires. What this means is that when applied, let us say you have a 25% solids products, the amount of actual material left on the surface is 25% of what was applied. The rest evaporates or is eliminated through the chemical or moisture curing process. This is a fancy way of saying you really were not left with enough product on the garage floor for it to do its job. This category would also include most concrete stains for your garage floors. $1.50-2.50 sq. ft.

Another reason for failure of these products is there is usually not enough prep work done to the floor before application of the product. A good acid etching at a rate of about eight parts water to 1 part muriatic acid followed by a neutralization of eight parts water to 1 part clear ammonia is a good start. Where many product recommendations fall short in this procedure is they do not recommend a complete rinsing and vacuuming of the concrete.

Testing for hydro static pressure is also necessary, to make sure there is no moisture coming up through the slab which could cause delamination. This is a very simple process whereby you tape down an 18" square piece of plastic for a 48-72 hour period and then check to see if it has any moisture showing on the plastic.

Epoxy garage floors: Epoxies in general carry more solids than their paint counterparts. As discussed above this enables them to handle more vehicular traffic and to stand up to hot tire pick up. There are several types of epoxy also, we recommend 100% solids epoxy as we have found this is the only kind that truly lasts over a period of several years. $3-4.00 sq. ft.

Epoxy chip floor systems: These flooring systems are used when you want to add a little decorative touch to your floor. These flooring systems can be achieved in two ways. In both systems, the first coat of epoxy is applied and then you can apply a second coat and sprinkle in the chips or you can apply a second coat, sprinkle in the chips, and then apply a clear coat of either clear epoxy or urethane. $4-6.00 sq. ft.

Epoxy quartz systems: These systems are extremely durable and sometimes a little more than the average homeowner will want to tackle on a DIY basis. A very thick coat of 100% solids self-leveling epoxy is measured and rolled out and then colored quartz sand is broadcast into the epoxy until rejection, meaning it cannot take in any more. The system is left until the next day or whenever the epoxy is at a certain cure stage and the quartz is swept off and vacuumed and you have a beautiful flooring system. $6-9.00 sq. ft.

Modular Flooring systems: These floors are one of the great inventions we discussed earlier with the advances of science, manufacturers have been able to produce plastic tiles that snap together and lie directly on the floor. This eliminates the need for floor prep and allows just about anyone to install these systems in a few hours. While a little pricey they are also portable, so when you move to a new home you can take it with you. $2-5.00 sq. ft.

Garage floor mats: These mats can be used in conjunction with lower quality paints to sometimes prevent hot tire pick up. There are also some that have a speed bump if you will to allow you to know how far to pull into the garage and not bump the wall. What a great idea for those of you with a big vehicle or a smaller garage. $100-300.00

Garage floor tiles: In some respects, these are about the same as the modular systems but not quite as pricey. They can be installed, (DIY) for about the same price, as you would pay someone to install an epoxy floor. The only drawback we have seen to these and the modular systems is; while they are designed to be washed off and usually have the proper clearance above the floor to do so, moisture could become trapped underneath. These could cause some mold problems. This is not necessarily the fault of the manufacturer but the flatness of your concrete and its inability to drain properly. Keep this is mind when looking into these systems. We will discuss possible ways to check for this problem and remedies for the problems if they arise if future articles. $1.50-3.00 sq. ft.

If I had my druthers, Id buy an island with no plains, trains or automobiles. You know where Im going with this article. This is the part where I say things have gotten far too complicated. Im either getting slower and stupider or the rest of the world is getting faster and sharper. I always used to be the guy on the cutting edge. Now Im the guy who always hits the wrong button at the ATM and has to cancel the transaction and start over.

Cars are even worse. There can be hundreds of diagnostics codes, 14 million miles of wire (ok, maybe not quite that much), thousands of parts, and an endless list of things that can break and set off that little devil I call the Check Engine Light. I think these guys who build cars need to stop making cars smarter and just make cars again. Im not interested in a car that can toast my toast, play DVDs while Im trying to drive, or have voice activation so I can be misunderstood more than I already am.

The short of it is I have an inferiority complex. My car should not have an IQ higher than mine. But it does. Fortunately, the guys who work in my repair shop are smarter than me and generally smarter than our cars. They talk a lot to the cars. I think our guys think the cars are alive. Maybe theyre right.

Its my opinion that its been a long time since most of your run-of-the-mill mechanics could fix most cars. Today, gosh darn it, the guy has to be a black belt computer technician, an MIT physicist for analyzing real time temperature traces, and a master troubleshooter with skills once reserved for engineers working on the first moon shot. If you wonder why you sometimes have trouble finding a mechanic that knows how to fix your car, its because its hard to find rocket scientists. And you pretty much do need a rocket scientist to fix complex problems on todays cars. One rocket scientist badge in the automotive repair world is called Master ASE certified. To get this badge of car repair honor, the technician must pass a tough set of tests covering many aspects of repair. Think of these guys as gurus. There are not many of them around. Youre on the right track if you see the master word in front of the ASE. If your mechanic has just an ASE rating, thats a good start. But think of these guys like students of Karate with their first belt. The Master ASE guy has all the belts.

Car complexity has been growing over many years. Even my dad complained about it. He used to tell us that power windows were a waste of money since they had more parts and more parts meant more things to fix. He was right. More things to break do mean more things break. Responsibility and Time Factor in Goal Setting

The "goal setting issue" is very often spotted throughout modern coaching, training and developing systems, no matter personal or business related. I'm pretty certain that if you read this, than you've already spotted the SMART concept (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, defined in Time) or variation of the same. The issue is massively exploited! No wonder, it touches a sensitive area of human living.

In order to understand the process of setting and achieving goals, it's essential to have in mind several basic points.

First of all, in the very basis of each goal one sets, there is a decision already made. First comes decision, than the goal specifics. The decision sets quality, and the goal specifics are just quantification of the same. First, we decide upon the necessity of bringing in some change in our living, then we explore the possibilities on what (particularly), when, and how we act in order to make the change happen.

Further, since we live a number of identities throughout our daily living (we are parents, children, workers, lawyers, CEOs, beggars, actors, you name it, at same time), it's normal to have goals for each area of our living, or each identity, if you prefer so. However, not all these goals have same significance for a specific period of time. Here we include priorities. If we practice some system of self-improvement that requires so, we have consciously built a priority list. On the other hand, major part of the population has it operated automatically, without conscious involvement. Common for both group, though, is that the priority list exists.

If we connect two elements of goal setting - the decisions and priorities, we can conclude that priorities are nothing than giving different weighting points to decisions already made. The emphasize still goes on decisions.

The last thing that I'd like to point out here before I connect all three (actually for the first two - decisions and priorities, it's already done) is the following: Since there are domains in our living that we can't control (i.e. we can't choose not to breath, stop our heartbeat by desire or change the time season, but we are strongly influenced by, we can conclude that we don't have access to "all buttons" that are to be pressed in order to make our wish come true, or our goal fulfilled. To provide minimum field to understand each other, I'll name the above (the uncontrollable realm) the 4th Dimension. I'm not quite happy with this term, but I feel so whenever I'm trying to word the Unutterable. It's the limitation that goes along with humans' speech. The Ultimate Reality transcends the words. The last are only poor symbols.

Now, I'd like to emphasize here that in decisions, which, as explained before, are in the very basis of the goals, lies a "reasonable amount" of Responsibility. Now, Responsibility of my decision towards the Universe? What the other beings have to do with my goal if it's "ecologically clean"? Well, have in mind the elements of a goal explained before and read on.

First of all, the Universe is multidimensional. The ordinary men are able to experience three dimensions at the time. However, let's the starting point of this theory be the assumption that there are more than three, be cause what we can't see, hear, taste, touch or feel doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. But in order to understand each other I'll use three-dimensional terms to explain what I want to communicate with you.

Let's imagine the Universe is a jar filled with marbles. Everything that exists in the Universe, other people, plants, animals, mountains, rocks, you name it, here in this concept is represented through a marble. (Please note, the "real" Universe is not definite. The combination of life forms existing in the Universe is also not definite. However, the jar is definite, and the number of marbles and color combination of the same in the jar is also definite.)

So I am also one of the marbles, living in the jar. Now, I look at the surrounding and find it unacceptable (In my "real life", I get dissatisfied with the current state in, at least, one area of my life). So, I make a decision to reorganize the surrounding layout of the marbles and make it suitable to my current needs (I decide to make a change in my life and improve the area that I'm not happy with). Now here comes the crucial moment. If I want to make those changes, the layout of ALL marbles in the jar is inevitably changed! If someone (the one existing in 4th dimension) observe the situation, he(she) notices that the whole layout of the marbles in the jar has been changed! Forever! No chance to take the move back!

The truth (let's get out of the jar) is - one can't change anything in one's Micro-Universe unless the whole Macro-Universe is changed. The responsibility is vast. But no matter what, the decisions should be made. Actually, the re is no way the process to be stopped, be cause that's the way how the Universe expands. By developing process of the Micro-Universes (through their decisions to change something), the Macro-Universe expands, develop, evolve

Again, the decision should be made and, yes, the priorities should be occasionally rearranged. However, one should be ready to bear the Responsibility of the consequences that are going to come in, once a decision is made. And what are they going to look like is not always predictable. To be brutally clear about what I mean, if one decides to get rich, a death of close relative and getting a big inheritance is not reflecting the prime idea, is it? A caution on what we are wishful for is highly recommended. Else, being ready for the consequences is not bad at all. The burden could be so big that one could repentin vain, of course.

Now, let's get back to those Goal setting concepts and the Time factor. I've never spotted one that doesn't recommend making our goal time specific. However, the more I advance on my journey, the more I see myself time detached. My ultimate goal in this life time is: To die aware. Or, in other words, to be conscious, alert, awarewhen the physical death takes palace. Now, following the recommendations of these concepts, there have been some goals of mine that I'd set in terms of time. The truth is, I've never achieved any goal in the time frame I'd set it so far. Yes, the goals are being achieved, a progress is being made, but the time button doesn't work. At least for me! Although being less and less dependable on time, I'm still functioning as ordinary human being in this time-space, so I can't just neglect the time concept. However, the time specific goal seems somehow shallow and defected.

No matter how strong, valued, clean, honest and purposeful our goals are, the Universe, the big sea consisted of us as precious drops, operates through its own laws, executing the Big Plan.

There is not time in Eternity.

Attacking the Pit Bull Problem in Los Angeles-MuttShack Animal Rescue Launches Grassroots Campaign

Twenty-six percent of the dogs at the six Los Angeles Animal Services shelters are "Pit Bulls". American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull are various names used to describe the breed and any mix thereof.

Whatever name they go by, they refer to a breed that has been labeled ounce-for-ounce, the strongest dog in dogdom. These dogs have very adoptable traits like a good disposition, stability, and superior physical attributes but often these very characteristics are presented to provide justification for fighting them.

Owning a "Pit Bull" gives their guardians a badge of bravado. These dogs are considered to be "macho" and therefore many owners don't want to neuter and spay them resulting in many unplanned and accidental litters. Consequently, they are also the leading breed and breed mix in Los Angeles shelters.

According to the Villalobos Pit Bull Rescue, the fallout is devastating. According to them the pit bull population in the combined twelve shelters (six city shelters and six county shelters in Los Angeles) has now risen to 40% of all the dogs in shelters.

They say, "Approximately 10 pit bulls are brought in each day to each shelter. That's 120 pit bulls a day. Most are strays, tossed out like dirty laundry." They calculate, "At the end of a week the total comes to 840 pit bulls. Then, according to Animal Control records, only about 2 pit bulls a week get adopted. The MuttShack Animal Foster and Rescue Foundation, is dedicated to change this tragic statistic. "We need massive adoptions from shelters, a very aggressive spay and neuter program, and an inescapable dog ID and micro-chipping campaign," says the founder, Amanda St. John.

Shelter dogs are in a life and death competition with Breeders and Pet Stores for potential homes. Shelter dogs need a LifeLine to get their profiles out there. Pounds are filled with purebreds and gorgeous pit mixes, puppies and trained older dogs.

To promote the adoption of at risk pit bulls from Los Angeles Animal Services, MuttShack has put together a slide show that may easily be forwarded to friends by e-mail. It is a grassroots effort and the Pound Pit Bulls' only hope in this competitive pet market.

Most dogs forever loose the families they love, because they lack a cheap six-dollar ID tag. A simple ID tag on every dog could save hundreds of dogs' lives. However, since collars can get pulled off during a rescue attempt, the soundest identification is a microchip. When a dog is micro-chipped and registered to a family, it reduces his chances of being lost. Most shelters and Vets provide micro-chipping services.

Microchipping also protects dogs from "bad guys". When owners are identifiable on a database, the dog is secure against being abused or used in pit bull fighting.

Well, here is a list of beatitudes we must have to achieve our retirement goals in the military. If we follow these beatitudes we may not be working until 70 years old with a second career.

1. Blessed are those that save for retirement (Roth IRA and TSP) early for they will have financial freedom. Yes, that is correct you will have more freedoms to do a lot more than if you didn't save any money. For examples if you were to save $4000 in a Roth IRA every year for just 5 years that money (with 7% return for 35 years) could be worth $213,530. So remember to start saving early so that interest works for you.

2. Blessed are those that pay down their credit cards with the highest interest first for they may save a lot a money in the future. Credit card debt is one of the worst things one can get into. It is almost financial suicide unless one can pay it entirely off every month. Most of us don't have the discipline to due so. So my advice if you have a lot of credit card debt is pay the minimum balance on the credit cards that have the lowest interest rate and put that extra money into the high interest rate credit until they are paid off first.

3. Blessed are those that create a budget for each paycheck for they may have money left over to save in their high yield savings account. Yes, a budget is always a good habit to get into. I recommend writing down a budget and then try to stick with it. After a few month than adjust it some. Most financial advisor say pay yourself first for retirement then your high yield saving account for emergency funds, then finally the rest of your expenses. I cannot stress the importance of having money in a high yield savings versus a savings account down the street. A high yield savings account is 10X the national average rate.

4. Blessed are those that sacrifice those expensive toys (i.e. boats, 4 wheelers etc.) for they will have some money for retirement. Some of us can afford these toys so I am not against buying these things when one has the actual money to buy it. However, may people what to have these toys but they want to finance them through the bank. Later, they find out they either cannot pay the payments or they lose interest in these toys.

5. Blessed are those who do not accrue late fees/ATM fees for they will have more money. Sometimes we do stupid things with our money. We forget to pay for items on time so we are charged a fee. Sometimes we use the ATM machine more than we should and accrue fees. My advice is to go to the bank and get enough cash that will last for the next payday instead of using the ATM. Secondly, we need to set up a time once a month/or once every two weeks to pay our bills on time.

6. Blessed are those that will never take out a PAYDAY loan for they will be charged a very high interest rate fee. This is one of the best ways one can waste money. I cannot believe it takes the power of congress and the president to limit these companies to lend to servicemen. It is better just to stay away from these companies.

One can never have too many rainy day games to keep children amused. Here is one that is plenty of fun and is simple and inexpensive to boot. You will have to buy at least one ping pong ball if you do not have one handy, and you will also need a coffee cup. Plus some hard surface - say a linoleum kitchen floor or a hard wooden table or desktop.

The rules of coffee cup basketball are simple - the player has to bounce the ping pong ball once (just once) and then get it in the cup. The players alternate, taking turns from different sides of the cup.

Set a number of baskets needed for a win, and a minimum distance away from the cup for the bounce. One way to do that is to put the coffee cup in the middle of a large plate or platter and declare that the bounce has to happen beyond the plate for a basket to count.

As a variation that makes the game a bit more intense, call a win (say) ten baskets but add one more try each time the ball switches hands. So if two are playing, the first player gets one try, then the second player takes two tries, then the ping pong ball goes back to the first player who can make three attempts, then the second player takes four shots, etc. First one to accumulate a total of ten baskets wins.

What is a Toll Free Routing Migration?

Before we can answer the question of what is a Toll Free Routing Migration, we need to briefly understand the function of SMS/800.

The 800 Service Management System (SMS/800) is a US based Operations Support System (OSS) that performs toll-free (800, 877, 888 and 866) number management.

The primary function of SMS/800 is twofold:

to act as the source of Toll-Free number availability and reservation status information.

to select the carrier on which a toll free number routes.

Service providers (e.g. Qwest, Global Crossing) that assign toll-free numbers for use within the US and Canada use the SMS/800 to establish routing records for customers, and download records to local exchange carrier Service Control Points (SCPs) to facilitate call processing.

Service providers generally prefer that their toll free numbers route on their own networks. Some service providers do not have a network presence in all places where Toll Free calls can originate (e.g. Puerto Rico, Alaska, Guam, Fisher Island NY). As carriers establish a network presence in new areas, they need to change their SMS/800 records to take advantage of their new network facilities.

Recently (in May 2007) Qwest established a network presence in Alaska LATA 832. Qwest asked their complimentary carriers to move their Alaska LATA 832 traffic from the MCI-0222 Carrier Identification Code (CIC) to their LGT-0432 CIC. All new 8XX's and existing toll free numbers must be rebuilt in SMS/800 to accomodate the new routing configuration.

Managing Toll Free Routing Migrations is a "cost of doing business" for RespOrgs and Telecom Providers and Resellers. These Toll Free Service Migrations cause thousands of records to be updated in SMS/800 and the corresponding SCP's and can be a resource drain for their provisioning departments.

The Magnificent 7: Tips for Cleaning Up Clutter

Clutter is postponed decisions. Here are some suggestions to simplify the task of controlling clutter:

1. Put all like items together. Put items in their largest category first, and then break them down by steps as necessary. For example: (1)Put all clothing together. (2) Then break into womens clothing and childrens clothing. (3) Then break womens clothing into seasons.

2. Create your own organizing store. Determine a specific place to store any organizing items you find as you sort that might be useful in the future. This could include boxes, hangers, hooks, shelves, bags, organizing equipment, etc.

3. Determine the best location for each category. Where will they be used? What location would be the most practical place to have these items. For example, if items need to be secure, choose a location that can be locked or a lock could easily be added.

4. Choose an appropriate container. Select one that will hold the largest amount of each particular item you expect to have at one time or, put some of the item in a convenient place, with additional supplies in some less accessible space. For example, some paper could be under the copier with extra paper in a nearby closet.

5. Make containers easy to use. If you want to encourage people to put things away, remove lids whenever possible. For example, a container for videos which requires taking the container off the shelf to remove the lid will probably result in people putting the videos on top of the container!

6. Labels contents. Label the outside of all containers/shelves/cupboards clearly. This will vastly improve the chances of items being returned to their correct location!

7. Identify a specific purpose for every container/location. Unidentified containers/shelves/boxes quickly become catch-alls for postponed decisions.
